Energy

http://www.japanquakemap.com/
Hit the fast forward button twice to zoom through it.

That is nuts. Whats nuts to think about is the amount of energy involved in an earthquake. Imagine moving the earth just a few inches. Its truly power of biblical proportions.

Mark 11:23 (King James Version)

23For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Master Splinter

We should have called charlie "Master Splinter". He is nickname is Wiener though. I guess it humorous to walk around the house, "Hey, have you seen wiener?"

Goat Head

Found a goat head on the property yesterday. It made a good fence post topper.

Coincidences

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110321/en_nm/us_sammyhagar_aliens

Hagar laughs and goes on to explain that a passage in the book described as a dream in which he is contacted by aliens from outer space in California was, in fact, reality.

The tale describes how the beings tapped into his mind through a wireless connection.

"It was real," Hagar told the reporter, according to the story on MTV's Hive website. "They were plugged into me. It was a download situation ... Or, they uploaded something from my brain, like an experiment."

and directly from the interview

"Especially back a few decades ago, when this stuff happened to me. I couldn’t talk about it because I didn’t know how to explain it. I didn’t understand the technology. But now I’m pretty sure it was a wireless situation. Either a download or upload. They were tapped into my brain and the knowledge was transferred back and forth. I could see them and everything while it was happening. There was a visual involved, almost like … I don’t know. [Laughs.] Don’t get me going!" Removable Doors?

Link to Autoblog Article
"Just as damningly, unnamed consultants claim BYD's vehicles are very unlikely to pass U.S. safety standards, saying of one of BYD's models, "If you shut the doors too hard, they fall off." Removable doors... not good. Some automakers polled by Reuters claim that BYD requests just enough parts from reputable suppliers to reverse engineer the designs and then assemble them itself using inferior materials." - Autoblog, March 10th, 2011.
Another reason to laugh at anything made in China.

Coco Palms Tour, Kauai

We took a tour of the Coco Palms hotel. It was destroyed during Hurricane Iniki in 1992. You can tell from its rich history that it was once a very grand hotel.

On the tour we heard stories from people that had seen Elvis, and Ricardo Montalban there. It was really fantastic. It would be great if they restored it or turned it into a park with a cultural center.

Here are some photos:

Tours were Mon-Thurs, 2pm, and the cost is $20 per person (with discounts for Kama'aina).

Humvees in the movies

The scene in the A-team, where they are watching the humvee (HMMWV) in 3D is one of the greatest scenes. Cracked me up.

Lt. Templeton 'Faceman' Peck: [after breaking Murdock out the team speeds away from Sosa who starts firing] She's actually shooting at us!
Capt. 'Howling Mad' Murdock: [Murdock pokes his head out of the escape vehicle wearing 3D glasses] You should see these bullets in 3D!
Sgt. Bosco 'B.A.' Baracus: Murdock, get in here!
Capt. 'Howling Mad' Murdock: It's like we're actually being shot at!
Sgt. Bosco 'B.A.' Baracus: We are getting shot at you crazy ass fool!

More Dreams

I had a trippy dream last night that aliens told me how their UFO technology worked. Apparently (and you can start laughing now...almost to the end of this post), is that they discovered a technology that makes the surface of their craft naturally and quickly draft through air molecules. Almost like a sail on a ship, but requires no moving air. Or if you are into sci fi, the equivalent of solar sails. This is the reason why the alien ships are built in a disk shape, so that they spin and create a fan that blows air downward causing them to hover. The ships can reconfigure and reshape in the sky. Which is why in the videos you see them zoom back and forth and pause. They can also configure into a cone, which is why we see them pause for a second and then move vertically into the sky so quickly.

They then gave me the formula on how to engineer this material, but I wasn't paying attention. They then told me that it was simple physics and we would discover it one day just like we discover every other theory in physics. The aliens were really cool and friendly. Oh, and they don't talk, they purely use telepathy.

Jessica, they said "Wazzup , Yo!".

More Reggae

The longer I live here I find Reggae is starting to slowly grow on me like moss.

I am really digging this remix too:
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Sun Is Shining (Yes King remix)

Engineering

I wish I had taken fluid dynamics instead of thermal dynamics. Or really, taken both.

I can't say I have ever calculated the heat dissipation of an aluminum heat sink under convection outside of class. Today I sure could have calculated the loss of water pressure over a certain distance with a certain diameter pipe...
