Rob Swift

Listening to this today. Some old school hip-hop.

Isn't it amazing how the role of television has shaped our memories and minds. Not just as individuals but as a country and a world. Certain images and scenes echo around in our minds and will for the remainder of our lives. Each of us has a different set of clips that make up our memories. Its television that has created a common connection among people, without it almost every human on the planet would have a different set of memories.

I'd drive this one

Ok. It would be fun. But fun as in I could kill myself if I hit anything or anything hits me.

Are our attention spans getting shorter

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag8F26lANOIs

Why is that these jack holes make videos where they pop around the screen. Is the video made better by the fact that they look like crack heads and act as if they switch topics randomly and quickly? Oh this topic was getting boring but wait they changed positions within my screen, now I am interested again. Which num-nuts thought this was a good idea...cause he needs a kick to his gonads. Its getting old, annoying and overly used. Its as if they can't do a continuous monologue. Can you imagine if the news was like this? Worthless sack of shaa..sh...stupid punks,....bah humbug

Saturday Night Live

Might be making a comeback. The new guy (Jay Pharoah) did Will Smith two weeks ago, and last Satuday was Denzel Washington. On Point for sure.

I wonder if Will Smith calls Denzel and says "Hey, did you see that, that dude on SNL. He is pretty funny. Except for the impersonation of me, that didn't sound like me at all."

Looks like we have more to come on SNL (youtube link).

If I ruled the world....

In Hawaii news:

HONOLULU — A San Angelo woman has been awarded $5.6 million by a U.S. District Court jury in Hawaii in a lawsuit against a McDonald’s restaurant on Maui.

[ommitted]
She was injured Nov. 25, 2007, at the McDonald’s Dairy Road restaurant in Honolulu. Her attorney, Michael Cruise, said something had been spilled in the area where she slipped.

Munguia fell in a manner that caused a burst compression fracture of a vertebra in her lower back, Cruise said. He said the vertebra lost 90 percent of its thickness in the injury.

Cruise said Munguia underwent two surgeries but all they did was stabilize the injury. She is permanently disabled, suffers chronic pain and is confined to a wheelchair most of the time, he said.

Last week the U.S. District Court jury awarded Munguia $2.67 million in special damages for past and future medical expenses, lost wages and retirement benefits. The jury also awarded her $3 million in general damages for pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment of life.

How the hell does a jury...a jury give 5 million dollars to someone who fell. No mention of fault was made in the article. Its not like McDonalds intently spilled french fry oil on the floor and put a hidden camera up. Anyone could have dropped something. A little kid could have spilled his coke. How is McDonalds responsible if you fall? Why would you sue McDonalds? What happened to just falling, and claiming it was an accident. If I ruled the world, frivolous lawsuits would get thrown out. And if you approached my bench with the intent to sue for something frivolous I would strip you of everything you own and give it to the defendant.

This is just ridiculous. I need to find another planet to live on.

Kapaa gets a mention

Saw this on KVIC tonight. It is a scene from Honeymoon in Vegas.

I live in Kapa'a and I still don't know how to say it...

Not a fan of Nicolas Cage (he has bird hair and he is a bad actor).

Laugh for the day

This windows phone commercial made me laugh.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHlN21ebeak

I pledge to not use or look at my phone just because I have nothing to do for 5 seconds. There are more important things in life than being glued to the phone. What happened to the days where someone would send you an email or message and didn't feel obligated to respond back. How about sending an email the next day. What is the rush?

I hate the airport

Sometimes flying home in a plane, I just wish I could jump out. Look! I can see my house right there, can't I just bail out right here. Why do I have to land, wait for everyone to stand up at the same time, push and shove their way down the aisles, cram around the baggage carrier (I don't know why people do this, or crowd around the gate during boarding time), then get a ride back home? Sometimes as I stand in a crowd I feel like a sheep being hurded. When I say "baaaa", I don't think a lot of people get my joke.

This looks like fun.

Friday's deep thought

In the news was a [yet anothernewly discovered earth like planet. Within the next 100 or so years we will embark (or at least hope to) on space exploration.

New Earth-Like Goldilocks planet discovered by astronomers in alien solar system. The planet discovered is 20 light years from Earth with basic and essential conditions needed to support extraterrestrial life.
Link to story on Newsoxy.com

The first family that dedicates there lives for space exploration will certainly have an adventure on their hands. Think Star Trek or Lost in Space. The weird thing is, this planet is 20 light years away. Which will probably take (at a minimum) 10 generations of people to arrive at. When they leave Earth they will likely be living in a weightless environment until they arrive at their destination. Their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be born and live life in a weightless environment. Imagine everyone flying, every day. For a hundred years, everyone flies around this little town floating in space. Then...they land on this planet. Now everyone is forced to walk. The people would say "We used to fly everywhere, and now we have to walk, this sucks.". Its the exact opposite if everyone on earth one day started flying. We would all say "This is awesome." Pretty trippy.

$69 million well spent

Make sure you flip through all 3 pages. http://articles.latimes.com/2010/oct/04/local/la-me-welfare-20101004

"I think when somebody hears it's in a fancy hotel in Hawaii or Vegas, it's too easy to assume the [welfare recipient] is visiting that place and it wasn't somebody who stole their card," said Jessica Bartholow, a legislative advocate for the Western Center on Law and Poverty.

Oh no, my first assumption was that the card was stolen. In fact, tens of thousands of cards were stolen. Which explains why the total adds up to $69 million. What a stupid statement.

"John Haley, commander of the financial crimes division of the San Diego County district attorney's office, who said 24% of all new welfare applications in his jurisdiction contain some form of fraud. "We look for patterns of abuse."
Surprise! They can work, and yet they collect free money, medicare, education, social security, subsidized rent, subsidized bills, and now free healthcare ANNND subsidized vacations. Whats wrong with that?

This goes to show, if you put money into a system, there will be leaches that will abuse and exploit the system. And the best quote of the article.

"If it's on Lanai, that should trigger an investigation," said Jon Coupal, president of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Assn. "California taxpayers, who are struggling to keep their own jobs, are subsidizing other people's vacations. That's absurd."
