Dumb Laws

California is home of the dumbest laws. The one that pisses me off the most, is the assault rifle ban. What constitutes an assault rifle, has nothing to do with how dangerous a gun is. It has to do with characteristics of a weapon that look intimidating (link for more reading). Some law maker decided a pistol grip is a characteristic of a threatening weapon, so they passed a law that bans any gun with pistol grips. Here is an image of the same gun, one is banned while the other is not. How is a pistol grip any more dangerous than a model without?!! How does one gun kill more people than the same model with a different feature? What kind of joke is this? How does a folding stock make a weapon more deadly?. I am sorry, but if a stock folds, it doesn’t make it any more concealable or dangerous. Have you tried sticking a rifle down the leg of your pants? The problem with the law is that it bans many weapon models who don’t offer alternate configurations. Also, many weapons are banned by name.

There are many parts to the assault rifle ban, including flame throwers and grenade launchers. Yes, I am in total agreement on that ban. But pistol grips, magazines, and folding stocks….what the hell?

The assault weapon ban expired in the United States in 2004, but now there is a push to reinstate the ban on the national level. Even though the law expired on the national level, it is still in affect in California. Even though there is a ban in California, there is nothing to prevent someone from driving across the border with a weapon. But wait, in the laws it says its you shouldn’t possess one. I am sure all the law-abiding criminals are going to follow this rule.

Thankfully we have the brainiac, Nancy Pelosi in office. She will straighten things out….just as soon as people stop lying to her.
